"THE GARDEN DAY – 2016" (day two)
16 September Uman National University of Horticulture continued to receive guests who visited the scientific-practical seminar " Garden Day 2016." This event is held annually on the basis of a Uman national University of horticulture for the purpose of comprehensive scientific review of the modern state of horticulture in Ukraine and the world. To participate in the workshop was joined not only by scientists UNUH, but also representatives of companies and organizations. From the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine the event was attended by the Director of the Department of scientific and technological development of the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine Dmitry Cheberkus, who in his welcoming speech noted the long historical record of the University starts in 1844. from the Main school of horticulture, and focused their attention on well-established scientific schools of the institution, developments and best practices, including in the horticultural direction.
Welcoming the participants of the workshop, Vice-rector for scientific and innovative activities Uman national University of horticulture, Professor Viktor Karpenko noted that the University is the flagship industry of Ukraine, which in the foot steps with advanced technologies and is intended in the future to fully support the growth of the industry in Ukraine.
During the workshop, the Department of General agriculture showed "a Long-term experience with fertilizer system Apple orchard", founded in 1931, the renowned scientist in the field of agriculture, in particular the garden, Professor Simon Rubin. Experience in the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 5 December 2007 №. 1103-R included in the State register of scientific objects constituting national patrimony of Ukraine as a "Unique research agroecosystem Apple orchard Uman national University of horticulture".
This theme was highlighted in the report of the doctor of agricultural Sciences, Professor of Department of General agriculture Petro Koputko, who told the audience about the main effects of the study of systems of fertilizing an Apple orchard, and noted the duration of this unique experience, which has been underway for about 85 years Now the main results of the research are grouped around the issue of preserving the fertility of the soil. Currently, research-based recommendations for fertilization of fruit plantations, depending on the system of soil maintenance in orchards. Such developments are quite valuable, as demonstrating an economical use of fertilizers without reducing yield fruit. Interesting for the audience to know the history of such studies, as this experience is unique in the world.
Research and development in the fruit nursery present told the candidate of agricultural Sciences, associate Professor of horticulture and viticulture Volodumur Mayboroda, and about the peculiarities of the storage of horticultural products processing inhibitor of ethylene revealed in its report, the doctoral student Department of technology of storage and processing of fruit and vegetables Olga Drozd.
During the workshop everyone had the opportunity to get acquainted with modern varieties of fruit crops grown in the gardens of Uman national University of horticulture. Their exposure, according to Dr. agricultural Sciences, Professor, head of Department of fruit growing and viticulture Alexander Miller, was presented by the geography from Japan to the US, however gratifying was the fact that most of the demonstrated varieties were of Ukrainian selection.
All participants of the workshop actively involved in the discussion of published research and outlined the range of problematic issues for the next meeting.
