“Alekseevski reading” in Uman NUH

November 20 in the department of early printed books of  Research Library of Uman National University of Horticulture was held a meeting “Alekseevski reading” dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of Professor Maryna Alekseeva.

The meeting was attended by members of the Department of Vegetable Growing, Leading Librarian of Research Library Nataliya Mykhaylova and students. Participants learned about the difficult life of Professor Maryna Alekseeva, her developments of technologies of growing onions and garlic, listened to the reports of the Department  scientists about conducted scientific-research work.

Head of the Department of Vegetable Growing, Professor, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Olena Ulyanych opened the event presenting the purpose of assembly and focused the attention on the place of conduction of the readings, as in the department of early printed books, valuable material about outstanding personalities who made an invaluable contribution to the establishment of the university is preserved.

Students told about life of Maryna Volodymyrivna, who was not only a scholar, but also worked as a nurse during the war. For Military Merit, scientific and production activity Maryna Alekseeva is awarded with the Order of Red Banner of Labor, of World War II of the second level, of Red Star , “Badge of Honor”, Friendship of Peoples, seven gold and three bronze medals of the USSR. Working as a professor she has prepared 24 Candidates of Sciences and 3 Professors.

A warm meeting was continued by librarian Nataliya Mykhaylova, who reported that the library has 5 books that left a legacy of Maryna Alekseeva, and appealed for cooperation with regards to the younger generation.

 The participants of the event had an opportunity to listen scientific reports of scientists of the Department of Vegetable Growing: Associate Professor Zoya Kovtanyuk , postgraduates Lyudmyla Soroka, Vyacheslav Dremlyuk and Olha Aleksiychuk.

 Zoya Kovtanyuk said that she enjoyed working at the department, the founders of which were such prominent people as Maryna Alekseeva.

With concluding remarks to the audience addressed Head of the Department Olena Ulyanych. After reading a quote from a book about the post-war years, Olena Ivanivna appealed to  the audience to appreciate and cherish what we have; Professor expressed an opinion that the memory of distinguished people should not become a thing of the past, so that the lecturers of the department prepare a chronicle about respected lecturers of the department, which will join to the treasures of the department of  early printed books of Research Library of the University.
