International scientific conference "Selection and Genetics. Science and Education"

On the initiative of Uman National University of Horticulture, National dendrological park "Sofiyivka" of NAS and Ukrainian society of geneticists and plant breeders named after M.I.Vavilov international conference "Selection and Genetics. Science and Education" was held on March 19 at the University. The conference coincided with the 70th anniversary of Sc.D. Fedir Pariy, the head of the Chair of Genetics, Plant breeding and Biotechnology of Uman National University of Horticulture.


Fedir Pariy has gone a long way from the agronomist to genetics scientist who pays great attention to the introduction of innovative technologies in the educational process. He shares his rich academic experience with masters, graduate students, young researchers and future plant breeders and applies his scientific achievements in production. His sunflower hybrids occupy 8% of area under crops in Ukraine.

In 2012 the staff of the Chair, headed by Fedir Pariy, was awarded with gold medal of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine "For development and introduction of high-yielding varieties of crops". Research school headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences Fedir Pariy gained wide international recognition. He is the author of more than 40 inventions of plant breeding technologies and more than 70 varieties and hybrids of crops. 

Rector of Uman National University of Horticulture, Doctor of Economics, Professor Olena Nepochatenko opened the conference and welcomed the participants. She greeted Fedir Pariy on his 70th anniversary and on behalf of the administration awarded him with a Certificate of Merit for hard work, professionalism and personal contribution to the development of science and training of highly qualified specialists for the agricultural sector of Ukraine. The rector also wished the participant to have fruitful discussion at the plenary session.

    Cofounder of the conference Director of the National park "Sofiyivka", ScD, professor, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the International Academy Ivan Kosenko joined to the greetings of colleagues and wished him good health and prosperity.

Participants of the International conference exchanged experience and shared future plans to create new varieties and hybrids of crops.
